From 22 September to 04 October 2022, candidates of the Basic Engineer Officer Course 1.2 deployed on Exercise ROYAL SAPPER to conduct urban operations training and Troop level infantry tasks, including attacks and raids, to develop their competencies in their secondary role as infantry. Staff and students paused to observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation during the exercise. CFSME’s own Warrant Officer George Loza, 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown’s First National Spiritual Advisor, visited the course to speak about his experiences and to help staff and students better understand Indigenous history in Canada, and how they can contribute to Reconciliation. Following the exercise, the course conducted a live-fire platoon weapons range to practice use of C19 Claymores, M203 40mm Grenade Launcher, M72 66mm Short Range Anti-Armour Weapon (SRAAW)-Light, Carl Gustav 84mm SRAAW-Medium, and the C6 General Purpose Machine Gun.
