The inaugural Brigadier-General (BGen) Sheila Hellstrom Memorial Award for Diversity and Inclusion was given out on 29 June at Base Gagetown. This award recognizes a 5th Canadian Division Defense Team member who strives to make the workplace more diverse and inclusive.

The BGen Sheila Hellstrom Memorial Award for Diversity and Inclusion is presented to Sergeant Melanie Marr, one of the founders and current military co-chair of the Gagetown Pride Advisory Organization. A proud member of the LBGTQ2+ community, Sgt Marr holds advisory roles within her unit, 4 Engineer Support Regiment, her corps, the Royal Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and Base Gagetown. She is a Positive Space Ambassador instructor and has worked tirelessly to increase diversity and inclusion across the 5th Canadian Division for several years.
