The annual Chad O’Quinn Memorial Powerlifting Competition will be held at 5th Division Support Base (5 CDSB) Gagetown on June 6, 2024. Registration details will follow as we get closer to the event. The competition will be open only to military members and all experience levels are welcome.

Corporal (Cpl) Kenneth Chad O’Quinn was part of a team that disabled and destroyed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during the Afghan conflict as part of the War on Terror. On March 3, 2009, on the way back from defusing an IED, Cpl O’Quinn’s vehicle was struck by an IED in the northwest of Kandahar, and he was killed in action along with Warrant Officer Dennis Brown and Cpl Dany-Olivier Fortin.

Cpl O’Quinn was formerly based at 5 CDSB Gagetown and was an avid weightlifter who competed in local competitions. A powerlifting competition was created in his name to honour his memory and sacrifice.

5 CDSB Gagetown encourages its military members to register for the competition for a day of strength training, remembrance, and friendly competition amongst colleagues!
