National Public Service Week was celebrated with a BBQ at the Maritime Club at 5th Canadian Division Support Base (5 CDSB) Gagetown on 13 June 2024. Throughout Canada, the third week of June is known as National Public Service Week. Created in 1992, this week is a time to recognize Federal Public Servants and acknowledge their valuable contributions.

The festivities began with a welcome and appreciation speech from Deputy Commander, and Acting Commander of 5th Canadian Division Support Group (5 CDSG), Lieutenant Colonel (LCol) William Dixion, “there is a lot of gratitude that goes out to the public service employees here on base…. [This] BBQ is just a small token… to show appreciation for the work [they] do.”

In addition, the Formation Sergeant Major of 5 CDSG, Chief Warrant Officer Dave Hudon, spoke about the importance of teamwork, stating, “everyone who has been in the Military, [knows that] teamwork is so important. I want to reemphasize and thank [the public service employees] for being part of the team.”

Following the welcome speeches, Erika Dufresne, a Civilian Human Resources Administration Officer at 5 CDSG Headquarters was awarded 5 CDSG Top Civilian of the Year for 2023-2024.

For outstanding dedication and professionalism, Erika Dufresne is awarded the 5 CDSG Top Civilian Award. As the formation civilian Human Resources Administration Officer her tireless efforts have positively impacted both the formation and the 5th Canadian Division in building and maintaining capacity. Through her personal commitment and a rare degree of understanding of divisional priorities and impacts, she has been instrumental in managing the civilian hiring process, which has been a vital aspect of operationalization of the formation.
