The Halifax Mariners swept away the Gagetown Warriors in a best-three-out-of-five tournament to win this year’s Atlantic Region Women’s Hockey Championships, held from January 29-31, 2024, at 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown.

Captain Dawn Macauley, team captain of the Mariners, said the Warriors had “fast players” that gave them “a lot of tough one-on-ones,” and the key to victory for the Halifax team was their flexibility and ability to adapt to the situation.

The Mariners swept the Warriors three games to nil, with scores of 6-2, 6-3, and 4-2.

Master Warrant Officer Lizette LeBlanc, team captain of the Warriors, said that the team “gave it their all” throughout the tournament and had a positive mindset.

The tournament is one of several sports tournaments in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) that help members develop communication skills, teamwork, resilience, and fitness.

Congratulations to the Mariners for this year’s victory and best of luck for the Warriors on future tournaments.
