Major Chris Kane assumed his new role as Commanding Officer of 5th Canadian Division Support Group (5 CDSG) Garrison St. John’s during a ceremony in St. John’s on May 18, 2022. He takes over from Major Tony McDonald who has held the position since July, 2020.

Maj. Kane comes to the Garrison following other key leadership positions held within 5th Canadian Division (5 Cdn Div) and 5 CDSG, all directly related to support. Born and raised in Trinity, Trinity Bay, NL, he has previously completed operational deployments to Namibia, Croatia, Eritrea, Haiti and Afghanistan.

Garrison St. John’s is well-positioned for continued success under Maj. Kane, having undergone restructuring under Maj. McDonald’s tenure to better deliver on Canadian Army (CA) readiness and force generation support requirements.

A native of St. John’s, Maj. McDonald will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and will go on to proudly serve our country as the Canadian Task Force Commander for Operation SOPRANO, the Canadian Armed Forces’ (CAF) engagement in the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan.
